Preparing coffee is almost a meditation experience for me 🙏 . Once you know that coffee comes from a plant 🌿, that it is taken care of for months before it produces a coffee fruit and then picked and processed and roasted and finally grinded till you have it in your cup... ☕⁠

It's quite amazing what a coffee bean goes through so that we get out caffeine fix... So I'm always extra careful and thankful when making coffee. 😊⁠

Prepararme el café es casi una práctica de meditación para mi 🙏 . Una vez sabes que el café viene de una planta🌿, que se cuida durante meses hasta que produce la cereza del café y que después se cosechan y se procesan y se tuestan hasta que por fin se muelen y acaban en tu taza...⁠

The pic are African Gods and Goddesses that were identified with Catholic Saints when the Spanish colonised Cuba. ⁠

During my trip to Cuba, I had the opportunity to talk to santeros and see and live their culture. I thought it was very interesting, so when I came back, I felt the need to share what I learnt as well as do a bit of research to learn more. Since it is a religion/cult that has been quite secretive from its origin, a lot of details vary from family to family. I am not a santera, so this is a brief article done with care and interest. ⁠

So... during this pandemic I've learnt a lot about #racism. Ever since the murder of George Floyd I have been trying my best to educate myself in the History of racism in my own country, 'cause that's where I can make a difference.⁠

Did you know that Spain had slaves? Not saying that they(we) took them to America, but that we had them in our daily lives? I didn't. But now that I know, I think it's important that we share it with everyone. The first step for change is to be aware. Sadly, we are not very aware in Spain... Thus, me sharing this post. ⁠

First coffee shop I got to visit post-corona was at @orval.barcelona. Had an oat milk flat white with a delicious slice of banana bread🌈. I had been having filter coffee at home but the creaminess of the milk and the punch from the espresso is unmatched 👌.⁠

Side note: I was also moving out to my current flat and really needed that extra boost. I had to move twice in the middle of a pandemic...🙃 but I'm really happy now, so worked out for the best! 😊⁠

This particular place is now closed because of the recent restrictions in Barcelona, but before it closed they had all these plants everywhere and it had a very relaxing atmosphere... 🌺🌻🌼🌿😍 Also, their other shop @espaijoliu is still open for take-away!⁠

La primera cafetería que pude visitar post-corona fue Orval. Me pedí un flat white con leche de avena y un trozo de banana bread 🌈. En casa había estado tomando café de filtro, pero la cremosidad de la leche y la fuerza del espresso, no es fácil de conseguir👌.⁠

Por cierto: Me estaba mudando del piso donde vivía y necesitaba esa energía extra. Me tuve que mudar dos veces en medio de la pandemia... 🙃 Pero estoy muy feliz ahora así que ha sido para mejor.😊⁠

Este sitio en concreto ha cerrado por las nuevas restricciones de Barcelona, pero antes de cerrar tenía plantas por todos lados y un ambiente muy agradable... 🌺🌻🌼🌿😍 Su otra tienda, Espai Joliu sigue abierta para café para llevar!⁠

RE-INTRODUCTION:

My name is Marta, Spanish girl, in my late 20s. 🙎🏼‍♀️

I was born in Almería, raised in the Canary Island and did my 4 year BA in Madrid. After that, I moved to London, where I studied a Masters and stayed to work and save money. 💪💰

I “accidentally” found a job in Speciality Coffee ☕ and I have been working and growing in the industry for a full year and few months now (intermittently). It has now become an essential part of my life. 🌈

After 4 years in London, I left my job, my flatmates and friends and went back to Spain… Only to pack my bags ✈️ and go to my dream destination: Taiwan. And so I went, on January 2019, alone, with one hand luggage and a backpack. From there, I went to Vietnam, Cuba, Taiwan again. 😍 In 2020, I came back to Spain to stay for a while.

I opened this online space to share experiences and knowledge about coffee ☕, travel✈️ and cultures✊.

Me llamo Marta, soy española, veintitantos años.🙎🏼‍♀️

Nací en Almería, me crié en las Islas Canarias y estudié la carrera en Madrid. Después me mudé a Londres a hacer un Máster y me quedé para trabajar y ahorrar dinero.💪💰

De «casualidad», conseguí un trabajo en el mundo del café de especialidad. De manera intermitente, llevo un año y algunos meses trabajando y aprendiendo de este mundillo. Ahora, se ha convertido en una parte esencial de mi vida.🌈

Después de 4 años en Londres, dejé mi trabajo, compis de piso, amigos y volví a España para hacer las maletas ✈️ e irme a mi destino soñado: Taiwán. Y para allá que me fui en enero de 2019, sola, con una maleta de mano y una mochila. De ahí, a Vietnam, Cuba, Taiwán de nuevo 😍 y en 2020 estoy de vuelta en España por una temporada.

Abrí este espacio online para compartir experiencias y conocimientos sobre café☕, viajes✈️ y culturas✊.
